Deliver Hope
Let’s be people of hope
Christmas is the key season to point people to the hope that Jesus offers and to be people of hope. According to the Talking Jesus research four in ten adults in England either don’t believe Jesus was a real person or they aren’t sure. This Christmas, let’s be praying for opportunities to talk about the living Jesus and to show the difference he makes in our lives.

We are thrilled that plans to make Jesus known in 2018 are taking shape throughout the country: Wales, Cornwall, London, Kent, Lincolnshire, Cumbria, and dozens of villages, towns and cities in between. We are working with Tearfund to mark their jubilee with a united mission focus in Merseyside, Coventry and Bristol. We’ve had an amazing year visiting hundreds of church leaders’ gatherings, helping regions to shape their HOPE 2018 vision, and preparing resources that will help churches make Jesus known. Let’s be praying that every church will be a beacon of hope this Christmas and throughout the coming year. Thank you for your prayers – we have a team of people praying for HOPE 2018. Let us know your plans so we can pray for you too.

Christmas HOPE
Parish magazineIt’s not too late to order copies of Christmas HOPE. More than 392,000 copies of the magazine have been snapped up, but copies are still available. Here’s how churches are using the magazine:
  • In one village, church members will deliver copies to 3,000 local homes together with the parish magazine and details of Christmas events at the church, including an invitation to an Alpha course in the New Year.
  • In another area Christmas hampers are being delivered to Christians Against Poverty clients, together with a copy of Christmas HOPE.
  • In a third area 2,100 homes will be visited over three nights. Each home will be given a goodie bag with chocolates, a Christmas invitation and the Christmas HOPE magazine. The church will also give away copies of the magazine at their Christmas Spectacular, and to all those who those who attend the church’s community groups: a lunch club, an English Language School, a toddlers’ group, and a Foodbank.
How will you use copies of Christmas HOPE? The magazine is available for just the cost of handling and delivery and can be ordered online here or by phone 01903 263354. We welcome donations to cover print costs of 10p a copy. All other costs are covered.
Pray with us
We are grateful to Sky sports presenter Simon Thomas for sharing his story in Christmas HOPE. Please join us praying for him and his son Ethan as they face the sudden tragic loss of wife and mum Gemma last week.

Want some encouragement? 40 Stories of Hope is full of stories about changed lives. We’ve had lots of positive feedback about the book, and already 10,000 copies have been requested by prison chaplains. HOPE has compiled the 40 Stories of HOPE40 stories from prisoners, prison chaplains and ex-prisoners, and CWR has published this attractive book, together with 40 daily readings and prayers, plus group sessions. The book is recommended by Churches Together in Britain & Ireland as its 2018 Lent course - weekly downloads will be available here in early December in English and Welsh. 40 Stories of Hope can be used in the weeks leading up to Easter 2018 or at any time, by churches, prisoners, or anyone who wants to be inspired by stories of hope. Free copies are available for Prison Chaplains to give away. Copies can be ordered from CWR here.
Talking Jesus training
More than 80 members of Gateway Church in Eastbourne spent half a day together recently talking and praying about ways to reach their community. They used the booklet ‘Talking Jesus – What Can I Do?’ to spark ideas on their morning together. Churches are finding that the four easy-to-use sessions and personal stories make the short booklet a great encouragement as churches prepare to make Jesus known in 2018. Copies can be ordered from the HOPE shop.
Start the year in prayer
As we gather together in prayer meetings, home groups or church services at New Year, let’s come before our Father in heaven asking for his mercy on his Church and on our land, and asking for his Kingdom to advance across our nation. HOPE’s New Year prayer ideas will be available to download before Christmas.
Easter-HOPE-Cover-smallEaster give-aways
We are already looking ahead to Easter and the resources we can provide so churches have something to say, something to give, and an invitation to offer. We had already started preparing our cover feature on Prince Harry for the HOPE at Easter magazine, before the royal engagement was announced. The magazine’s focus is service and sacrifice, pointing to Jesus and the Easter message. It’s an ideal door-to-door give-away for churches inviting local people to Easter guest services. HOPE’s book ‘Who Do You Say I Am?’ will also be available to give away at Easter services – again Jesus is the focus. Plus we’ve commissioned a short video for churches to show.
99 days of prayer and peace-making
HOPE-Greater-LoveAs 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the ending of the First World War there will be opportunities in the year to look back, and to look forward with hope. Notably in 1918 King George V called a national day of prayer on 4th August 1918 – 99 days passed, then the war ended. On 4th August 2018 HOPE and our partners will be starting the countdown to Remembrance Sunday – 11 November 2018. During these 99 days, we will provide ideas for prayer and peace-making compiled by young people as part of HOPE Revolution, with Peace Party ideas to bring communities together after Remembrance Sunday commemorations.
