Heathervale Senior Citizens relive memories
Simon Parish, an organiser told us about their 'incredible' afternoon in Heathervale on Saturday May 12th. "With around 55 guests plus the hardworking team from the church we all thoroughly enjoyed our early celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Both the foyer and church lounge were decorated with Union Jacks which was also the design for the table napkins; there were red, white and blue flowers on the tables and the background music was the stirring pieces from the Last Night of the Proms, so it wasn’t a surprise that everyone was in a Royal frame of mind.
"Our opening video reminded us of the 60 years of the Queen’s rule, with both its highs and lows. This was followed by Bill’s patriotic sing along starting with Jerusalem and ending with Rule Britannia and visiting songs from Wales, Scotland and Ireland in between.Martin used the grace that has been approved by the Queen herself for these celebrations and the sumptuous tea commenced. Thank you to all who were involved in preparing and serving. The subsequent cards of thanks confirm the appreciation of all who were there."
"Between the sandwiches and cakes our Lazers group performed an excellent mime, culminating in raising their glasses in a royal toast. This was followed by two lovely songs which captivated their audience. To end the afternoon Martin spoke briefly about a monarch whose reign would last forever, the King of Kings, namely Jesus, and explained how we could share in that eternity with God the Father.
In closing we sang the National Anthem and all our guests took home with them a glossy souvenir brochure depicting the Queen’s 60 years on the throne as well as her strong Christian faith. All in all a grand occasion and one that will surely live in the memories of all who came."
