Serving Salisbury

As part of her Jubilee Celebrations, The Queen has requested that no one eats alone on Sunday 3rd June. Inspired by this, the Churches Community Action Group—a sub-group of Churches Together in Salisbury—present a Big Jubilee Weekend! Over a dozen churches have already committed to be involved. Essentially, this weekend is an opportunity for us to be Church to the people of Salisbury as they put faith into action and serve local residents. This BIG weekend is not an event, however, but more of a strategic opportunity to build relationships with neighbours; to reach out to those so often overlooked; to be united in serving the needy; to be good news to the city. Their aim is to SERVE as Jesus served, and so to introduce people to Him as the churches unite to share their faith through actions - and words. “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18

Jubilee cakeBig Action
Modelled on the Big Saturday initiative pioneered by St Paul’s, this day of community action will see over 300 members of local churches placed in small teams in pre-assigned, assessed placements. Tasks will include painting and decorating, gardening, tidying, and clearing for local residents in need. Referrals will be made by local charities and local churches. Each team will be led by a member of St Paul’s who has previously taken part in a Big Saturday. Clients will range from those with mental health issues, to the elderly and disabled. Volunteers will be recruited from local churches, and assigned to teams by a planning group made up of representatives from all participating churches. All ages are welcome to take part.

Big Night out
A night to celebrate all that is good! Held in the grounds of the Salisbury Cathedral School, and hosted by the Bishop of Salisbury, this event will be aimed at all ages and feature activities, live music, and a barbeque on a grand scale. Entrance will be by ticket only, and we will encourage team members from Big Saturday to attend, bringing with them their clients from the day and/or others in need from their local community. Tickets will be sold in advance on a “+1” basis, allowing people to purchase their ticket inclusive of a “+1” for a community guest
