BBC Preston Passion
The live BBC One programme for Good Friday 2012 will be a contemporary and dramatic re-telling of the Passion story and feature an exciting combination of live performance and innovative drama. It will be broadcast live on 6th April from an outdoor location in the centre of Preston.
Locally recruited performers and singers will help create the live spectacle and three specially written filmed dramas - inspired by the real lives of Preston people through history and today - will depict the core themes of the Passion story.BBC have searched for dancers, performers and singers of all ages to take part.
Aaqil Ahmed, BBC Commissioning Editor Religion and Head of Religion & Ethics, says: “The Preston Passion will be the centre piece of our religion programming this Easter – with its unique combination of live spectacle and performance coupled with fantastic and contemporary pre-recorded drama it really will be must see television on BBC One.
Stella Hall, Director of the Preston Guild says: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with the BBC, in one of the landmark events of this year’s celebration for the city. This major Guild project demonstrates our commitment to delivering a programme of events that will include people from all backgrounds and age groups guaranteeing a production to be proud of."
