Pancake Pandemonium
St Philips Church in Penn Fields, Wolverhampton, will be celebrating the start of Lent with Pancake Pandemonium!
The creatively crazy event, on Shrove Tuesday 6-8pm, involves a pancake flipping contest, pancake faces, a crème egg challenge, graffiti wall, stories, crafts. Mostly everything is centred around the well-loved pancake.
Pancake Pandemonium is open to families in the area and children from the nearby schools. Leonie Fisher, Children and Family Pioneer minister at St Philips, is new to the area but developing relationships with families in the community and sharing faith through school work and events such as this.
Leonie Fisher said: “The pancake flipping contest has proved popular in other places. Using the pancake focus means we can have a lot of fun together but it is an opportunity to explain what Lent means in a simple way and show a bit of how it builds up to the joy of Easter.
"Many of those that come will not have much Christian contact and we want to show them that Christians are normal and we can have a party. It will also give an opportunity for parents and children to relate to the real reason for the season.”
Before everyone leaves they will be presented with the Love Life Live Lent challenge which encourages participants to complete an action each day during lent. These actions help us to transform our world - locally, nationally and globally.
A messy church-style service will act as a follow-up event on Good Friday, looking at the Easter story. The church members and volunteers hope that Pancake Pandemonium will be a conversation starter. |
