In the Cumbrian coastal village of Seascale, HOPE advocate Lyn Edwards is working towards fulfilling a dream: ‘In my dream I saw a cafe full of young people chatting – young people who had formerly been “chained and burdened” on the streets of the village. The cafe was called Shackles Off.’ Whilst plans are underway to turn a shop into this cafe and drop-in centre, Lyn has teamed up with two friends, to turn a Citroen Picasso into a ‘HOPE Mobile’. They’ve stacked it with snacks and use it to get around so they can build good relationships with local teenagers who told them they didn’t have anywhere to go or anything to do. Lyn’s aim is to provide a place where they can come and find ‘security, purpose, fulfilment and a God who loves them’ and alongside plans for the drop-in centre is working on developing a facility to help young people get access to education, training and employment. The Rev Philip Peacock says that the level of support for the project is very high, and that ‘this is a positive fruit of HOPE that will extend beyond this year’.
