Fun day attracts 2,000 in Bedford

On Sunday 22nd August 2010, Hope in Bedfordshire in conjunction with
Bedford Street Angels, Jaffa Orchard and local churches hosted a free
Family Fun Day which was attended by over 2,000 people. The event
ran from 1.00pm - 4.00pm in the grounds of Mill Meadows, Longholme
Way, Bedford.
At 4.15pm, there was also a short celebration led by Adam May,
Project Director of Bedford Street Angels. Speaking on how to make the most of our life was the Reverend Rupert Hankey, Curate of St John’s Church. Worship was led by New Life Music Group and there was a dramatic presentation by Open the Book, a local Christian group.

The fun day itself included many free attractions, such as inflatables,
face painting and a free barbecue. Local churches and organisations
planned the day, with the sole aim of showing God’s love to the local
community. The day was paid for by donations from the churches
involved, and involved a volunteer team of over 50 people.

The day was declared a success, with visitor numbers higher than the
1400 who attended the previous similar event held in 2008 ran by
Urban Saints, in conjunction with Hope in Bedfordshire.

Following last weekend’s event, Becky Coster, Chair of Hope in
Bedfordshire said: “The Hope in Bedfordshire Family Fun Day last weekend was a huge success as we welcomed over 2,000 people to join us for a free afternoon. There were a number of stalls from a wide range of organisations. Our motivation for the event for simply to give people a free day out as the summer break comes to an end. We hope there was something, serious and fun for everyone to enjoy.”

Hope in Bedfordshire is part of a larger nationwide initiative, the
