Early Day Motion 1480

Early Day Motions (or EDM's) are a sort of petition that are signed by Members of Parliament  to indicate their support for a particular course of action or point of view. To find out more about them check out this link.

On 6th May 2008 Alun Michael MP lodged the following EDM at the House of Commons:

That this House welcomes HOPE2008 and its vision of encouraging and resourcing churches across the UK to engage in community service throughout the year; recognises the valuable work that churches do in their local communities, including voluntary work, befriending and the provision of services - particularly in the most deprived areas - and encourages them to sign up to HOPE2008; is heartened by the support shown to HOPE2008 by politicians of all parties, church leaders, police chiefs and other prominent public figures; and encourages churches to carry the spirit of HOPE2008 beyond the end of the year itself.

At the end of June a total of 63 MPs had signed the motion (the party breakdown is 28% of all Lib Dem MPs, 9.5% of Labour MPs and 4% of Conservative MPs). Check out the list of MPs who have signed the EDM and if your MP has not already done so, why not contact him or her and ask them to do so?
