Micah Challenge 2008

Micah ChallengeIn 2008 Micah Challenge will be running a campaign focusing on child health.  A staggering 10.9 million children die every year before they reach their fifth birthday.  International leaders have promised to change this, pledging in the Millennium Development Goals to reduce by two-thirds the child mortality rate by 2015. The Micah partners want to challenge Christians across the UK to speak out for justice and hold the Government to account for reducing child mortality.

The campaign will give young people and adults in the UK a chance to speak out with their brothers and sisters across the world suffering from the effects of poverty.

The campaign will run during late spring/ early summer, building up to a climax before the G8 summit in early July.  Through the campaign, we are seeking to both engage Christians in speaking out for justice for the poor and to impact decision makers ahead of the G8.

Churches and individuals will be provided with resources enabling them to take part in a range of ways, depending on their level of involvement.  In particular, Churches will be encouraged to engage with their local MPs through methods such as writing letters, having children send in drawings or inviting their MP to an event or service.  In addition there will be a postcard action, or similar, for individuals to engage with.  We are also investigating the potential for regional and/or a central event.  We will also be seeking to lobby Ministers directly through a meeting with Ministers.

Tearfund, World Vision, The Evangelical Alliance, Christian Aid, Holy Trinity Brompton/Alpha and Compassion are just some of the organisations which are part of Micah Challenge and which will be backing the campaign.
